About The Ark Archive

In its heyday at 1421 Hill Street, between 1969 and 1984, few in the audience at The Ark would have noticed a single black cable running from the Sure Vocal Master PA system up the pantry wall and through the ceiling to the upstairs living room. After setting chairs and microphones in front of the fireplace, adjusting the sound system, and introducing the night’s entertainment, Dave Siglin often slipped upstairs and pressed the “record” button on the TEAC model A-4010S reel-to-reel tape recorder – threaded with a fresh 7-inch reel of ¼ inch magnetic tape and set to a recording speed of 7-1/2 inches per second.
